In the late 1940s the Jones and Scharfenbergers moved to 20 Maes y Dre Denbigh a three bedroom house. During the early days Ursula's Nain & Taid (Sarah & David) lived with her parents. Winnie nursed her mother at home until her death in 1950?? David William Jones (Taid) passed away in 1965?

Ursula, Susan and Erica were all born in the house. Sue in 1948, Erica in 1949 and Ursula in 1955. Carol the eldest sister was born in 1943??

Ursula recalls.....

My Taid (David William) cared for me whilst everyone else was at school or working. I have very fond memories of him and Penny the corgi dog. Taid often made us toast over the open fire and he was passionate about boxing and loved Sunday night at the London Palladium which we all watched together after our baths.

I wasn't that impressed with Junior School, my mum took me but within the hour I'd be back home and this carried on for a while much to her annoyance but eventually I decided that to have an education was the wise thing to do.

Some shops spring to mind like Eddie T.O's which was my favourite shop in the world for fresh bread  and bacon that was to die for dead posh middle cut and wrapped in grease proof paper. Then there was the second best shop in the world The Gem every sweet in the world for sale, Carol gave me sweet money on a Sunday and off I'd go to stock up for all the girls.

I have few memories from my early days as a child living at home with my sisters Carol, Susan and Erica. It would appear from stories told to me by my family that I was a bit of a handful. What is so wrong in eating coal or sucking on slugs and enjoying already chewed and thrown gum off the floor, its good for the immune system.  Not forgetting to mention my many accidents and scrapes with cars and the occasional motorbike I had whilst out playing. I loved playing with good friends that included Fay Kelly, cousin Ceri and Ian from next door who was my first ever boyfriend age 7.

Memories of Len Skells, Top road, National school, Cae Howells, the Lawnt & Top Woods.

There were lots of changes in 1965, Carol moved to Wolverhampton,  Sue gave birth to Becky and Erica was in Liverpool doing her Radiography training and sadly our darling Taid passed away.

Around this time I also went to Germany with my parents to Carnival and I loved it apart from the long car journey.

1966 heralded big changes for those of us left at home. Mum, Dad and I moved to a newly built posh bungalow in the bottom of Denbigh Town. Our new home entertained many visitors including many from Germany. England also won the world cup this year, fun times and great memories. I always looked forward to visitors we had lovely food and I was spoilt rotten.

Next Secondary School beckoned and I tried fairly hard but I was no major scholar. However, I was fairly good at sport which I loved especially netball and athletics.
